ALGIMANTAS VALANTINAS,
PROSECUTOR GENERAL OF THE REPUBLIC OF LITHUANIA
Was born on the 29 October 1961 in the Buknaičiai village, Mažeikiai district.
In 1980 graduated from the Mažeikiai 1st secondary school (currently M. Račkauskas gymnasium). The same year he entered the Faculty of Law of the State University of Vilnius (currently Vilnius University).
In 1985 graduated from the Vilnius University and obtained lawyer’s qualification. Admitted to service at the Prosecutor’s Office.
From 1985 to 1988 – Assistant to prosecutor, Interrogator in the Prosecutor’s Office of the Kaišiadorys Region.
From 1988 to 1989 – did his military service in the Soviet Army.
From 1990 to 1991 – Prosecutor of the District Prosecutor’s Office of the Širvintos Region, Chief Prosecutor.
From 1991 to 1994 – Chief Prosecutor of the District Prosecutor’s Office of the Jonava Region.
From 1994 to 1999 – Judge of the District Court of Jonava Region, Chairman of this Court.
From 1999 to 2000 – Director of the Courts Department under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania.
From 2000 to 2005 – Chairman of the Vilnius City 2nd District Court. In 2000 became a Board member of the Lithuanian Association of Judges, from 2002 – member of the Judiciary Council.
On 24 November 2005 by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Lithuania was appointed as a Prosecutor General of the Republic of Lithuania.
