Prosecutor General’s Office declares that the information revealed in the media and related to the suspects in the case of Medininkai massacre is either inaccurate or does not correspond to reality. It shall not be confirmed or denied, or commented in any other way whatsoever until the investigating prosecutor decided or gave his consent to publish certain pre-trial investigation information.

Please be reminded that on 28 January 2008 Mr. Algimantas Kliunka, Chief Prosecutor of the Organized Crimes and Investigation Department officially confirmed that the suspect in this case was brought to Lithuania, was served with the notification of suspicion, and that the courth shall be addressed to set the term of arrest. Yesterday the 2nd District Court of Vilnius City left the 10 October 2007 ruling to impose measure of constraint – arrest of 3 months upon the suspect in force.

The journalists should note that our national legislation provide for the fact that pre-trial investigation information shall not be published, and the principle of presumption of innocence should be applied in respect of the suspects.

Prosecutors investigation the case of Medininkai massacre seek to have and impartial and successful investigation and to disclose the criminal act. Information established during any pre-trial investigation are published only after the case had been forwarded to the courts for trial.
