VYTAUTAS BARKAUSKAS
DEPUTY PROSECUTOR GENERAL



Was born on 26 April 1953 in Telšiai.
 
In 1971 graduated from Žemaitės Secondary School of Telšiai.
In 1980 graduated from the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University and obtained qualification of lawyer.

From 1980 to 1982 – Trainee and interrogator in the then Soviet Region Prosecutor’s Office of Vilnius City.
From 1982 to 1985 – Senior interrogator in Prosecutor’s Office of Vilnius City.
From 1985 to 1988 – Deputy Prosecutor in the then Lenin’s Region Prosecutor’s Office of Vilnius City.
From 1988 to 1995 – Prosecutor of Interrogation Board of the Republic Prosecutor’s Office.
From 1991 to 1995 – Deputy Prosecutor of Prosecutor’s Office of Kaunas City.
From 1995 to 1997 – Deputy Chief Prosecutor of Kaunas Region Prosecutor’s Office
From 1997 to 2001 – Chief Prosecutor of Inquiries and Interrogation Control Division of Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Lithuania.

On 17 January 2001 by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Lithuania was appointed as Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Lithuania.

On 6 February 2004 by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Lithuania was presented with award Order of the Cross of Vytis (the Knight) Officer’s Cross.
On 23 March 2005 by Order of Prosecutor General of the Republic of Lithuania was presented with Standard of the 2nd class Medal of the Prosecutor’s Badge of Honour “For Merit”.


Knows Russian and German.
Married. Has a son.
Spends his leisure time reading books, listening to music, playing basketball or tennis, travelling.
